Q: What radio shows play Phish?
Note:This is YEARS old. Serious updates needed, and welcomed - click "Contact"
above, please!
- Lanny's Good Music Show
- Michael Magyar informed of the Millenium Brunch, 9-12 Saturdays, WMEB
91.9FM, Orono, Maine, back in '96.
- From: Peter Gaston (8/95): Mark Wilson and Chris Hines hosted "The
Boot Show" from 11 PM to 2 AM on Saturday nights on WHCL 88.7 FM
at Hamilton College. The show features a sampling of the best Phish
and Dead in concert from Wilson's personal collection of tapes. It is
three hours of extremely KIND tunes.
- Rich Thompson used to do a show at James Madison University on WXJM
88.7 FM with up to half an hour for Phish. Rick particularly enjoys
fun combinations (my friend > cavern, catapult > stash, mango >
golgi. For spring 1994, this show was Thursday nights 2-3am.
- BJ D'Avella did "the Phish Phifteen", a segment of a show
Tuesday nights 1:30-2:30 am on Philladelphia's 103.3 WPRB. BJ hoped
(4/6/94) to expand to the Phish Halph.
- Jason Knell: "I am the newly appointed music director at my station
here in smithfield, ri (88.7 WJMF)...spotlighting Phish on sunday may
1 (1994)."
- Brian Lipman had the Blue Screen Show (89.3 WNUR-FM Evanston/Chicago):
Chico (Brian Lipman) and Ooodz (Scott Rognlien) serve as your late night
friends, treating you to the rarest and most sought-after live tunes
from the vast Blue Screen tape archives. Featured bands include Phish
(and plenty of it!), The Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic, Dave Matthews
Band, Blues Traveler and lots more. The Blue Screen also brings you
tasty tidbits of information in "Conversations" with our pals, such
as Trey Anastasio from Phish and John Popper from Blues Traveler.
- Max (?) as of 2/23/95 had "a show on 97.7 at Duquesne U. in Pittsburgh
... the signal is broadcast over cable not through the air. There aren't
any stations left on FM in PGH. Needless to say the situation sucks
because only campus people can get it, and there are many more Phish
phans out there than are what on campus. I run an hour long show with
a half an hour dedicated to phish."
- Shawn Orloff, as of 11/2/95, ran "a show in Syracuse, NY on 750am,
WERW, from 3-6am on Thursdays"
BTW, Phish has appeared in a number of radio shows, e.g. Rockline 2/3/97
and National Public Radio. (A collection is circulating,
of three 100min tapes, called the Tank Talk Tapes.) From: Jonathan Perry
Thu, 27 Oct 1994: A lot of what they played was bands and songs mentioned
in the FAQ. They played some of the Dude (It officially came out that
night I think) and from what I can remember off the top of my head, Marvin
Gaye, new Ween, Captain Beefheart (I think; this one is a little foggy),
a lot of non-Phish sounding music. The radio station they played on was
the big "alternative" station. I was very clear to see the influence
of the sounds they played although the songs and bands weren't very similar
to Phish. The listeners really annoyed me mostly though. 2/3 called asking
for free tickets. ... and Mike was on the Prairie
Home Companion on 12/7/02.

Thanks to everybody who
called in and asked good questions, and a special hello to all
the people who tried to call and couldn't get through. If you've
got something important to ask, you can always write the mailing
list thing and we'll read your letters and try to get back to
you. -- Trey Anastasio, Rockline, 3/22/94
