Is it okay to buy tickets from a reseller?

Occasionally, someone might have a ticket that they purchased for a friend or relative who could not attend a show. Under such rare and special circumstances, some have found tickets at shows. It is asked, however, that you have preplanned arrangements to meet someone with tickets if you expect such a situation to transpire. (Lemuria hopes someone will begin compiling a list of the best meeting spots at venues; maybe this could be part of or an addendum to the venue file.)

In general, however, you should not attend a show without a ticket. There have been many incidents of fake tickets begin sold in the lots in, at, and near Phish shows, and reports of enormous quantities of counterfeits being seized at airports. This is dangerous, for a variety of reasons. Above all, it makes it dangerous for you to purchase a ticket from someone you do not know. If you attempt to enter with a fake ticket, you will be ejected if not arrested, and there will be no recourse for your monetary loss. This is a real threat. There is no way to determine what proportion of tickets in the lot are fake, and you may not be able to tell that it is fake. Further, it presents a danger to Phish's ability to play certain venues and municipalities, as it allows, invites, encourages, and supports a population both larger and less cooperative than may be manageable.

Again, get your tickets in advance; if you don't, at least don't buy one from someone you don't know.

Above all, DON'T PAY ABOVE FACE VALUE for a ticket. (Sorry to shout.) Scalpers are scum. Nuff said.

To complate to Ebay, use this form.

If you're considering trying to resell your tickets, consider this official notice (11/02):

It is strictly prohibited to resell any tickets obtained through Phish Tickets-by-Mail for more than the purchase price. If you are found to be reselling, trading or brokering tickets that you purchased through our site for profit, Phish Tickets-by-Mail may at its discretion cancel your ticket order and all other pending orders in your name. This cancellation will result in a refund of the total price for the tickets minus a $7.00 per ticket processing fee and any shipping fees that have been incurred with respect to the order. We reserve the right to investigate all orders suspected to be in violation of this policy.
